Thursday 18th July

Dear Parents/Carers,

We would just like to thank you and the children for another fantastic school year and hope you are all ready for a well-earned rest over the summer holidays.

In preparation for the next academic year, we ask you to support the children over the summer to complete the following activities, so that they feel prepared for September.

Our topic focus for the first term is Intrepid Explorers, where our main focus will be on the Mayan Civilisation and the Rainforest.

Summer Activities:

  • Visit your local library or choose a book from home to read 3 times per week

  • Research an animal that lives within your local habitat or why not even visit Tropical World or Yorkshire Wildlife Park?

  • Download Switch Zoo and create your own animal

  • Timetables practice 3 times per week – securing knowledge of this is essential during the build up to SATs and this is fundamental to most mathematical concepts

  • Write a short recount about your most exciting day in the holidays for your new teacher

Recommended Reading:

  • 'The Explorer' – Katherine Rundell

  • 'Journey to the River Sea' – Eva Ibbotson

  • 'Running Wild' – Michael Morpurgo

  • For a challenge…'The Jungle Book' – Rudyard Kipling

  • 'Middleworld: Jaguar Stones' – J&P Voelkel

  • Any Tom Gates fiction due to our theatre trip!

Yours sincerely,

The Year 6 Team
